It is the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima today. On this day, Siddhartha gained enlightenment and became ‘Buddha’. We at Zypher believe that there is no better day of celebrating than to read books that shall help us gain knowledge and enlighten us.
Reading has proven to make people smarter. But what you read matters to improve your grey matter. It is essential to gain complete knowledge from books rather than half knowledge from the internet.
Here are 6 books that will guarantee make you smarter than the rest of the non-readers.

It was absolutely imperative for us to start with a book that discusses the life of Buddha and his teachings from a physical and physiological lens. Drawing from sources as varied as the Pali canon, Mahayana texts, Zen Buddhism, J. Krishnamurti, Ramana Maharshi, U.G. Krishnamurti, Nietzsche, post-modernist thinkers and biological sciences, The Buddha retells the story of Siddhartha. A must-read for today.

Kahneman in this book speaks elaborately about the two different thinking systems i.e fast thinking which doesn’t require effort and slow thinking that requires conscious effort. According to him, humans are usually more attracted to stories, small size data samples, relatability to their previous experiences rather than just hard, cold statistical data. This provides great insight into the process of decision making and human psychology and is definitely a must read!

Harari traces the history of humankind over the ages through an evolution since stone age until today’s modern contemporaries. Through the three great revolutions that altered the course of mankind, the author tells us our own story.

Not many of us are aware of space or cosmology. Hawking, a legend, simplifies the science and introduces the secrets of the universe to amateurs and beginners in this wonderful book.

Sagan is apt when he calls this book a voyage. It is indeed a voyage through the history of the earth, up to the present times and even the future, a voyage through the billions of galaxies spread across the universe, a voyage of the past navigating into the future. Sagan speaks about everything under the sun, from astronomy to anthropology. Reading this book is indeed an experience.

Goleman in his book explores and explains the various concepts of Emotional intelligence. He methodically explains the reasons behind this and its real-life implications in the book. This book is a must read for all lovers of psychology.
We challenge you that if you read all of the 6 books listed above, you will definitely feel enlightened and liberated. Tell us what you think about the list of books given above. Share with us other books that you feel have enlightened you and changed your life.
